"El Centinela Del Rio", bronze and alabaster, 1998, 21 Feet.

Location: Tequesta Point at Brickell Key, Miami, Florida.

El Centinela Del Rio acts as a lighthouse at the tip of Brickell Key and entrance to the Miami River. The 6-foot long bronze and alabaster conch weights over 2,000 pounds.

The Tequestas sounded a conch as a mean of information.

The bronze structure of the hands and conch was taken from the foundry in Pietrasanta to Volterra where each piece of alabaster was imbedded by hand into the bronze structure of the conch. The conch holds a light bulb inside that acts as the lighthouse.
